On June 15, 2015 Brian accepted the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Gold Medal in front of his family, friends and peers. His son, Matthew Mackay-Lyons, a budding Architecture student himself, gave a speech about his father’s work from his perspective. Without a dry eye in the house Brian spoke of his family, the firm and his Partner, Talbot Sweetapple, the landscape he designs in, the local trades and master builders that influence and build his work, and the bright future of the firm. The Gold Medal is the highest honour an Architect can receive in Canada. Brian is the first Architect from the Atlantic region to receive this distinction.
